Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
~Philippians 2:5~
I remember growing up and of course had no idea who Jesus truely was or about the gospel itself. I remember the time where the "hot christian item" was products with the saying "WWJD- What Would Jesus Do?" I can recall it was rather comical to me at the time and to others. Today, as I am one with Christ and truely know who He is and what He needs of me; I find myself always asking the same type of question now as I walk beside Him each day. Would Jesus say something or keep silent right now? Would Jesus move in this situation or wait? Would Jesus think this kind of thought or am I being tested by another spirit? These are all questions, we as followers of Christ, need to constantly ask ourselves when faced with any situation. Ask the Holy Spirit for the leading. If you cannot hear the Spirit well or are trying to understand more about how to listen, just sit back and ask yourself these questions and you may just receive the answer rather quickly in your own heart. The Father sent His Son to save our souls, to align our thoughts and motives to His. Paul understood this very well since he knew Jesus personally and intimately, spent much time confiding in Him, waiting on His leading and understanding His thoughts. "Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ."
(I Corinthians 11:1)
We must die to who we are. When we come to Jesus we are us in Him. We are a new man/woman. We are no longer who we tried to be once or are trying to be now. Our minds must shift to His way of thinking, teaching and responding. The more we focus on Him each day the louder we will hear His Spirit. It takes much time and sacrifice in our own lives to see and feel more of Christ. "that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts." (Ephesians 4:22)
When our entire old man is killed off we will be convicted of things we once weren't, we will be willing to serve others more rather then ourselves and we will think and see as Jesus Himself does. The Holy Spirit will fill us as much as we are willing to be filled. God knows our hearts and if we are truely willing for the right motives we shall receive. "You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." (James 4:3)
The mind of Jesus is to serve without worrying about what it may do to you or for you. The mind of Jesus is to be patient with others when things happen. The mind of Jesus is to wait on Him to move in us, not to try to take control ourselves of the situation. His thoughts are pure, gentle and kind. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness." (Galatians 5:22)
Notice the order Paul writes these in. I personally believe it is symbolic to the order we receive true faithfulness in Christ. Love is the beginning and the rest will follow leading us to true faithfulness. The fruits we produce must be good to acheive a fullness in the Lord.
"to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:19)
When we are constantly asking ourselves if this is something I should do right now, say right now or think at all; we will be leading our lives imitating Him. There is nothing more pleasing to the Lord then to see His children serving the same way He served.
This includes how He sees people and how He responds to them. "Do You have eyes of flesh? Or do You see as man sees? (Job 10:4)
It is so important to walk in Spirit and Truth. As we focus on the spiritual side of things through the eyes of Jesus, we tend to be more patient and understanding as we see others struggling with unseen forces that they need freedom from. This is why Christ asked for forgiveness for those murdering Him. We must love as He loves. See as He sees. Think as He thinks. "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works."
(John 14:10)
Even Jesus admitted to not speaking or moving without His Father's guidance. When we get overly excited in the flesh we tend to just go, rather then meditate and ask the Holy Spirit whether this is something Jesus would want us to do right now. The devil is very tricky in disguising himself as an angel of light; "And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light."
(II Corinthians 11:14) There may be times when you are thinking as if what you think or say is from God, however, the devil may be the one lurking to get you to act in flesh and emotion. We must spiritually search ourselves daily. We must test the spirits we hear; "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." (I John 4:1)
This means testing spirits you hear not only in your own mind but also the spirits that are speaking through those around you. Remember, Jesus spoke to the spirits not to the people. He did this with His own disciples; " But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
(Matthew 16:23)
Again, the devil is very tricky. That moment we rely on our own thoughts rather then going to Jesus first and confirming more then once with Him, we may end up causing a domino effect of harm for us and others around us in doing so. The spiritual world must be learned and prayed on more. The flesh must be set aside. This is why Paul tells us to have the same mind that is in Christ Jesus.
Jesus did not focus on fleshly desires or selfish ambition. He focused strictly on God, His kingdom and the tricks of the kingdom of darkness. To be constantly aware of both sides will guard our bodies, our souls and our spirits each day. Go to Him.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you for Your words through Your servant Paul, a powerful man of God who was determined to preach truth to believers who lacked in spirit, to show Your glory through his actions and to have the same mind which was in You. I vow to strive each day for the thoughts in which You carry. I cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. I pray to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. I praise You for teaching me, guiding me, having patience with me and using me for Your works in this world. I submit my all to You and if there is any place in my being that is lacking of this total submission please convict me Holy Spirit. Show me what I need to pull away to put my flesh to death. I want to honor Your Name in everything I do and say. I want to understand more of the spiritual world and this way I can see and hear in the way You desire me to. I receive blessings over this day and I wait on Your instruction, not the instruction of others. In Your obedient, grace filled Name I pray, Jesus Christ. Amen.
