They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
~Exodus 10:23~
Have you ever found yourself stuck in a dark situation? Wrapped up in physical darkness or in spiritul darkness? We all have our moments as we reside in this fallen world. Things that creep and crawl make us squirm. Things that are after us because we follow the Lord Jesus. Things that frankly just want us to trip, stumble and fall down. Pharaoh could of cared less that the Israelites were trapped in despair, so God sent the life altering plagues upon Egypt. Each plague representing different things to correlate God's wrath for justice on His people; "Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth."
(Revelation 3:10)
God's ninth plague struck Egypt with pitch black darkness, enough to make it impossible for them to see one another or as this scripture says they were incapable of going anywhere for three days. However, notice who didn't get caught in darkness. The children of Israel had "light in their dwellings." We serve a God that is able to bring darkness upon the wicked all while keeping light upon His people. God can do anything indeed and is not one to judge lightly, no pun intended of course. As the children of Israel still had their light to sustain them it brings us a reminder of how Jesus Christ came to bring us light wherever we may dwell; "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Because the israelites chose God and followed His commandments, He was their protection, their light and their way out in a time when others were in the midst of chaos. This is the same God we serve today my friends! We can live in the midst of chaos and still have the protection and light of Jesus as we lean on Him; a world that goes dark with divisiveness, abominations, corrupt leaders and uncertain escape from unlawful precepts of men. We can always have light in our dwelling places as children of God. No amount of darkness can hold us down! The israelites had it, so do we; "And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." (John 1:5)
When we walk in the light of Christ, nothing can prevail against us. We can always rely on God for protection each day and He is faithful to give it. Not a day goes by that I do not begin my day with prayer to bind all dark forces from my friends and family, that I do not speak the word of God into any uncomfortable situation or that I do not praise God for the shining lamp He has set before me; "Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path." (Psalms 119:105)
Truely nothing is impossible with God and if He caused all of Egypt to go dark while still keeping His word to His childen, this is what He will do for us today. We must put all our trust in Him and not in men, for if we follow men we too will be stuck in darkness with them; "And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever." (I John 2:17)
We are covered by His light, we are not to fear for the darkness cannot comprehend us. We are sons and daughters of the most High King and as we keep ahold of His hand we will make it through any type of trial.
"Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)
Pharaoh's pride caused him to fall and caused all of his soldiers to go down with him. Our Father does not play games, neither should we! Let us follow the light and be the light to those who are in search of a way out. Jesus put us here to do so and will protect us as we do.
Prayer:
Lord God, thank you for loving your children so much. Nothing stops You from remaining faithful to us even in the midst of Your judgement. You are our fortress, our strong tower that we can run to for safety. Let the light of Jesus shine through me brightly today Father so that I may reach out to a hand in need of seeing You. Let me speak with words of wisdom that I may show that God is with me. Let me walk with heaven's protection in a dark world choked with sin. I pray to have self control, patience and peace today as I fulfill whatever assignment You have for me. I praise You and glorify You in every blessing and I am willing to learn more from You. In Your beaming bright Name I pray, Jesus Christ. Amen.
