He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
~Romans 4:20-21~
There is a type of unbelief the Lord wishes to address today. It is not the kind that says, "I do not believe in Jesus Christ." Rather it is the kind that says; "I believe in Jesus Christ but I doubt in His power in my life today." In my opinion it is a tragedy when the second occurs. Yes, it is deeply saddening when one does not have salvation, yet it is another to claim the Name of Jesus and disbelieve in His authority. There is no greater sadness then the "unbelieving believer." I think the toughest part about it is the very fact it goes unnoticed. Typically we think we have it all figured out, we have salvation so we are all set until we get to heaven or that we are meant to completely suffer in this life until we do because we lack understanding in His sovereign power to heal, deliver and use us as His own vessels. "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:17-18)
The Lord says "to those who believe." These signs will follow as we walk in faith and believe. If we harbor any unbelief in our heart we cannot see these things take place. We can preach the gospel all we want but the Lord is asking for us to live it and make it come to life. " But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
(James 1:22)
For this will bring glory to our King who is alive. Many times people struggle as they waver in their faith. Their heart feels heavy, their mind gets crowded and their spirit feels uncertain. There is something they just can't seem to understand. Jesus is telling us it is rather simple, unbelief. This verse explains the very act by faith Abraham carried; he did not waver at God's promises through unbelief but was strengthened in faith. Abraham was fully convinced that what God had promised, He was able to perform. Jesus made many promises to us before ascending to sit down at the right hand of God. He instructs us to carry out faith in Him that He is still able to proceed with what He did during His ministry. The ministry extends to us now; the Church. "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father."
(John 14:12)
Again, Jesus says, "he who believes." There is a disqualifying factor in His miracles. Unbelief. It is the very reason Jesus walked past many who He discerned did not believe enough to receive what He had to offer.
"Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief." (Matthew 13:58)
Our Lord is quite a gentleman, just as He does not force salvation upon us; He does not force us to believe in His works even today. He wants us to believe on our own, He longs for us to truely spend time with Him to feel His embrace of power and ask for His anointing to follow through as He instructed us to. The Holy Spirit guides us into all signs and wonders of God. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is within us! Let's believe in the very acts that cause the lame to leap up from the ground and walk, the blind to see again, the deaf to hear and the mute to speak! These are all very possible at this very moment. I have seen miracles occur and I can't bear to forget them. Forgetting His miracles would be equivalent to forgetting the incredible way the Lord Jesus came to me and I received salvation in a single hour of my life on June 30th, 2019. I did not call out to Him rather He came to me at my very breaking point and I somehow just knew it was Jesus, without ever knowing Him to begin with. If He can do this; He can still deliver us all, heal our ailments and equip us to being working vessels to do the same. "Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul." (Acts 19:11)
Because of Paul's faith and gratitude for the Lord's mercy, he chose to act upon his faith and show others just what Jesus can and will continue to do. Demons were cast out, the sick were healed, the dead were raised and glory was given to God! Paul did this as he preached the word of God. He preached and he lived it. Why can't we? Who so ever is hungry enough for the Father's gifts He is faithful to supply us according to our motives. "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"
(Matthew 7:11)
How can we even begin to doubt in something that is written in stone? God's word is faithful and everlasting. We have the greatest opportunity to see amazing miracles unfold in front of our eyes but it takes the faith of Abraham; never wavering in unbelief, rather accepting all of what God has to offer. We need to stand firm and keep fighting. Even if we cannot see something taking place right away, there may be a lesson in it. " For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” (Hebrews 12:6)
God allows things for good reason and He is reaching out to break off the yoke of bondage in our hearts. Unbelief is contagious. When one speaks of it another falls. Faith is contagious. When one hears it another rises. We need to be a people that believe in God. Trust in His promises and live by them. Abraham didn't know where he was going, what he'd be doing or how long he would be in each situation; he just believed in God. Can we too believe in God so that Jesus does not marvel at our unbelief? It saddens me to think of Jesus waiting on us to move and us not doing so because of our own disbelief in Him.
Prayer:
Jehova Rapha, I am so thankful for the wondrous works You continue to allow available to us through the dwelling of Your Holy Spirit. Thank you for trusting in us to follow through with the Lord's works, just as past apostles had done. I know Your miracles are never ending and Your promises are true. Lord I believe, help my unbelief! Without Your saving grace I would not be here today and I vow to follow through with all of Your commandments. Use me as Your holy vessel to set the captives free, heal the sick and reach the lost. For I wish to present the entire gospel with my mouth and hands, all for the glory of God. I send praises up to Your heavenly throne as You watch me from on High. May the anointing fall upon me as You will. I am Yours. Glory be to the King of Kings who I wish to never disbelieve in. I receive all blessings and I pray for the spirit of knowledge to come to me, in the Name of my Savior and Friend, Jesus Christ. Amen.
