Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!
~Psalms 133:1~
When I prayed this morning about what the Holy Spirit wanted to be written, He kept repeating the same word over and over again; "Unity." He pressed on me the importance of the Body of Christ being brought together as the enemy lurks around like a roaring lion; "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (I Peter 5:8)
When we are on our own in the world, we become vulnerable to things we may not notice unless we had other believers beside us helping us to see it and fight through it. Notice how all of the biblical children of God who were called to do big things always had people who believed right beside them. Abraham had Sarah, Noah had his family, Moses had Aaron, Ruth had Naomi, Mary had Joseph and Elizabeth and Jesus Himself had His disciples. Those being of the same mind in the Lord can change history. God wants His children to pray, worship and minister together. "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
This is not to say Jesus is not there when we are on our own, because He is, but unity of the church is where the devil truely cringes. For he knows it is easiest to tempt someone on their own then when they are with other family in Christ to fight with them.
"Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven."
(Matthew 18:19)
Where there is discourse, the devil can work. Where there is agreement concerning the word of God, he must flee. Unity can win wars. When soldiers go out to battle they do not do this alone, rather being backed by a team of other soldiers agreeing on the same fight. Unity can create beautiful projects. When a person is building a house or shelter for others to get in off the street, they dont work at this alone, rather they have a team of others doing their part to help. Unity allows fellowship and praise to magnify for the Lord. When we gather together in a house of worship with others who deeply love Jesus too, we can witness big things happen as the Spirit of God moves as all join in one accord. The apostles in the New Testament had unity as they traveled preaching and teaching the gospel. Many glorious things occured as they moved in Spirit together. "Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”
(Acts 6:3-4)
What a gift it was and is that the Lord connects us to others and sends us out to minister for the word of God. When we do big things happen; arks are built, seas are split, family is made and miracles take place.
"Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
(Ecclesiastes 4:12)
As we add to the Body of Christ, we become stronger. Unbreakable as we agree in word and truth. Unwavering as we follow Jesus together and see glory fall. We can appreciate this gift that we are never truely alone. Even when we are naturally without others who believe, for a time being, we have the Lord beside us every step of the way. Unity with Him is still just that, perfect unity. "Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand." (Psalms 73:23)
The Lord is faithful to us and He gives us such blessings when He connects us together in Him. When we can meet with others and get things accomplished for Him, the Father in heaven smiles. For just as David says in this verse of today, "behold, how good and how pleasant it is." It is pleasing to Jesus when we are together fighting in faith, preaching, teaching and ministering. It is displeasing when brethren are in disagreement or they cannot seem to have peace with eachother. "Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God." (Matthew 5:9)
There is truely a beautiful thing to the Church itself. The gathering together of strong men and women of faith in God to fulfill all of His divine plans according to how He spoke them into being. It is truely a blessing as we are never actually alone, as the devil likes to whisper to us about. Paul warned many fellow believers how important unity was to God, this of course being the Holy Spirit speaking through him as truth. "For I fear lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not wish; lest there be contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, backbitings, whisperings, conceits, tumults." (II Corinthians 12:20)
When a church has many disagreements, it can fall. When a church is of one mind, the Father will continue to rise it up. What kind of a church would Jesus want representing His kingdom? One who has unresolved issues and contentions, or one who is working all together in love and agreement? If you had a buisness, for instance, and you hired a bunch of people and suddenly most of them couldn't agree with the way the boss wanted them to work together; do you think the boss would want those people to represent them? To be sent out for important meetings or to bring in more clients acting this way. I believe the buisness itself could become affected by their lack of unity. Paul preached the same type of unity, so the kingdom itself would not become affected by any means of their actions they chose to take as a whole. He knew the importance of partnership, he strived that all of the churches walked in peace together. Even though some did not listen to him, he still tried his best to teach the importance of it. So let us gather more in unity, stand for Jesus and get things done for the kingdom! "Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you."
(II Corinthians 13:11) Amen.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you for uniting Your children together in strength and peace. I am grateful for the oppurtunity to be a part of Your Body as I know it takes all of the pieces coming together to bring true unity. Lord, help me set aside any differences I may have with the church and show me how to grow closer to You with my brothers and sisters. Fill our place of worship with You Holy Spirit and help us to fulfill Your will. We stand together against the devil and we defeat him as we walk together in perfect peace beside our Lord Jesus Christ. Show me what I can do today to bless my family in Christ and be more unified in these times ahead. I give You honor and praise as I gather side by side with other believers, knowing it is a gift from You to do so. In Your precious Name I pray, Jesus Christ. Amen.
