That's Not Fair!

June 15, 2021

“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’ Hear now, O house of Israel, is it not My way which is fair, and your ways which are not fair?

~Ezekiel 18:25~

I remember growing up as a child, there were moments where I would utter those words to my father, "that's not fair!" To which my father would respond, "fair is what you pay for to ride all those rides." He had a very interesting way of dealing with our complaints, with humor and literal truth. We tend to believe as children that we have it all figured out and we act off our emotion. Really the parents sit back and believe the very act of this child's response is the unfair part, and honestly they are right. We are brought into this world by them, we are raised with a roof over our heads, food in our bellies and at the very slight outcome we are dissatisfied we tend to throw mini tantrums of distress, dont we? That's not fair! God responds to His children in such a sophisticated manner, he of course doesn't have the same reply as my earthly father did but He does get right to the point.

"Is it not My way which is fair, and your ways which are not fair?" What truth we find to this. We as rebellious men, women and children of God tend to think that we are living unfairly or we tend to place the blame on anything aside from our own ways. When will there come a time where we can stop and take a moment to accept God's ways over our own? "As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him."

(II Samuel 22:31)

When we begin to allow our inner child to release resentment towards a circumstance we begin to doubt in God for what He has given us to begin with, just as I began to doubt in all the goodness I truely had to begin with towards my own father. Typically it is little useless things we believe to be oh so unfair, when really there are people in this world with far worse outcome. God gave us life and God supplies us with what we need.

"Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 12:7)

As a result from the fall of man, we believe that this world is truely "unfair," but do we ever stop to think to ourselves just how unfair it is for God? Do we see things through His eyes when we begin to become those same complaining children we once were to our earthly parents? We have no other way of being truely grateful without the Lord Jesus helping us; "of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power." (Ephesians 3:7)

The grace in which God grants to us is not that which we earned, it is a pure gift out of His love for us. For Him, it is truely unfair, yet does He complain? No. He puts up with far worse then we could ever imagine. Yet He still loves us. Let us remember those inner children and pray for a release of any ungratefulness we may be holding on to. Let us take a look through God's lenses at our thoughts and comments. Let us remember the fairness we truely do have in Him. He is telling us in His word to listen closely, grasp the very idea that He is beyond fair to us and if we choose to turn to Him and live in Him, we will begin to see it more each day we align to His ways. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." (Psalms 23:1)

Having Him should be sufficient enough for us in all we live for. It is because of Him we are here. It is because of Him we are saved and redeemed. It is up to us whether we wallow in pity or receive His goodness with thanksgiving; "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name."

(Psalms 100:4)

As we do, we will have no more room to say "that is not fair!" We will find ourselves saying praises, even in the middle of trials.

God is more then fair, it is Him who has the only right to state unfairness towards us, yet He doesn't. His love is everlasting and His mercy is pure. Fair certainly is a place to pay to ride on rides and it is also something we may never truely understand. If there is something we feel this way about today, i suggest meditating on this verse and understanding life from God's point of view.

Prayer:

Father God, thank you for being so merciful, so pure and so loving to us. I know there are times I can act selfish and entitled to things in this world that cause my inner complaining child to manifest. Lord, I know Your ways are fair. I pray for forgiveness when I may feel otherwise. I ask for Your guidance in showing me how I can honor Your Name each day and align myself to You so I may not be in want. I receive all of You. You are sufficient enough for me and I am so grateful for life here on earth. For I know You have every right to point fingers my way but You are so kind to spare me. Thank you for redeeming me. I ask You to break off any ungrateful bone in my body. Lord, You are more then fair to me and I am praising Your incredible love. May all glory be given to You and all complaints be thrown away in Jesus Mighty Name, I pray. Amen.
