“When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him;
~Luke 14:8~
The feast of Christ's wedding, we certainly all have open invitation and the ability to invite those who others may believe to be "not worthy enough." Let's face it, none of us truely are. We are covered in God's grace and the gift was given to us just as freely as we are to extend it to others.
"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"
(Romans 8:32)
The feast is ordained for God's children, those who receive Jesus as Lord. Sometimes we get overly excited in our flesh at this invitation and we put ourselves out in the open to the extent of a "holier then thou" attitude. Christ is asking us to model His image and take a back seat so that in due time He will raise us up; "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time."
(I Peter 5:6)
As we lower our seating with Jesus we raise ourselves higher in Spirit. We align to God's perfect will and we have no need of self recognition for God sees us and this is sufficient enough, for He is the rewarder of all things good. God has a spot positioned oh so sweetly in the heavenlies for each and every one of us; "and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 2:6)
We have no need to find a spot here on earth to please our egos. We have a much greater seat with Jesus in heaven as we walk in humility, or shall I say sit in humility. The wedding feast is symbolic to our own fellowship feasts, communities and churches. When we choose to be noticed or loved by others above God, we are choosing to feed the pride of life in the flesh. God's own Son humbled Himself to the point of obedience to His own death at Calvary so that we may have this invitation and seat saved. Are we finding ourselves wanting the "best seat" or are we content with the seat Jesus has for us in this moment?
"Now godliness with contentment is great gain." (I Timothy 6:6)
I am personally honored to even be a daughter of the most High God, to be adopted and received with open arms by Him. I know that on earth no person can give me that unconditional abounding love that He can and I am at peace with that, for I know He sees me and He will exalt me when He sees fit. It is His call, not mine. Submission to His will gets us out of our own will; "saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)
As we lay a foundation we must first dig very low to do so. Fill in the gaps with concrete slabs and the Lord will continue to build on this in His time until we are that tall tower that He wants us all to be. It is humility that gets us built faster my friends. The glory will shine more for the Lord in our moments of gentleness and we will begin to watch as God decides to move us up a seat further and closer to the Head of the table. That's where it takes us, closer to the very image of Jesus Christ; "who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." (Hebrews 1:3)
Today, I pray for us all to take a step back, humble ourselves under God's power and wait on His divine intervention to bring us higher. For when we begin to search ourselves in this manner, we find that we are in need of some cleansing and restoration in places we thought we were just "all set." God is merciful and loving. He is patient and kind. Those fruits are available to us, lets not allow our own ego to hinder what God has in store for us. The feast is waiting, let's take our seats and sit low, waiting on the Lord to say when we are to move up.
Prayer:
Abba Father, thank you for this beautiful strength filled day with brothers and sisters. I know You divinely raise us up together as we humble ourselves to Your will. I pray and bless all my family in Christ who may struggle with their own need to "sit at the head of the table." I pray for my brethren and myself to carry the mantle of humility up the mountain You lead us on. I praise You for humbling Yourself so that I may have a place in God's Kingdom. I am forever grateful for my freedom and I long to fulfill the desires of Your heart each and everyday. I pray to use my voice to speak Your word and my heart which You fill to bless the broken hearted. I receive endurance, discernment and knowledge moving forward in this journey and I sit myself low knowing in due time You will exalt me as You want to. In the Name of my Savior and King, I pray, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Amen. Thank you
