Sing A Celebratory Song!

June 21, 2021

“Hear, O kings! Give ear, O princes! I, even I, will sing to the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

~Judges 5:3~

There are many ways to celebrate ones victory. When we win a battle we have been fighting internally, externally or all of our life we want to shout for joy. We want to give thanks to our God who gave us the victory. In Deborah and Barak's case they had pressed forward battling the king of Canaan for God had made a promise that he would be defeated in their hands; "Then she sent and called for Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, “Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded, ‘Go and deploy troops at Mount Tabor; take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun; and against you I will deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude at the River Kishon; and I will deliver him into your hand’?” (Judges 4:6‭-‬7)

The first thing they chose to do when they received their victory was to sing! They sang a song of declaration and praise! They sang truth and honor to the Lord above! There are occasions when we sing as a natural routine. A birthday party, a church service, a baseball game. There are moments when we will jump into song and we don't think twice about it, for it just "lines up with the way we are used to." The Lord is to be praised in this same manner, He desires for us to jump into song over our love and gratitude for when we come to our own personal victory or even that of our friends victory they have been waiting for. Deborah and Barak sang and the rest joined in to celebrate all of what God accomplished through them. It was a spontaneous act they chose to do as they knew Who got them through it. There is no greater sound to God then His children's praise with the very voices He made. If you have children of your own, you know the feeling of how sweet it makes your heart feel when your child busts into song they made up about their love for mommy or daddy. You can imagine that feeling multiplied beyond what we can fathom.

"I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being."

(Psalms 104:33)

Deborah, Barak and their people surely lived another day and they were ready to celebrate with God! Are we willing to bust into celebratory song for our Lord's victory over our own life? He brings us through days that seem unbearable. He defeated and disarmed all principalities and powers. He gave us the option of eternal life. He delivers us. He uses us to reach others who are fighting their own battles and promises defeat. We have every reason to stop what we are doing today and sing a song of celebration for all Jesus has done in and through us! When we give thanks and praise we naturally begin to feel better in our mood and in our body. "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (I Thessalonians 5:18)

We can show gratitude in different ways. Today the Lord has pressed it on my heart He wants to hear more of His children sing victorious songs. He wants us to sing even when we dont feel like singing. He wants us to sing and declare the glory against our enemies which He gives into our hands as He did to Deborah and Barak. Let us write our own love songs to Jesus and not hesitate to sing them out loud asking others to join in with us. For the Lord takes delight when we do. "Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And declare His works with rejoicing." (Psalms 107:22)

Let's break the world's acceptance of when to sing and begin to show Jesus how much we truely appreciate all He has done!

Prayer:

Father God, I thank you and I praise You in songs that You will hear and that angels will join in on with me. My lips were made for praising You and I shout joyfully for deliverance, healing and restoration of my soul. Let my soul bless Your Holy Name each day. Let me never hesitate to sing to You, no matter who is watching I want to lift up my voice You have provided me with to sing! Lord lead me in the direction of unending gratitude. Show me where I am not being thankful so I may change that and draw nearer to You. My life is Yours and I am thankful for the victory You have given to me and my brethren. In Your Name I sing, I praise and I love, Jesus Christ. Amen.
