“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
~Matthew 6:25~
We live in a time where busyness and anxiety are at its peak. People running to and fro and concerned about everything and anything. Daniel was warned about this very thing to occur; "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” (Daniel 12:4)
Since the internet was made and time went on knowledge sure did increase more, it is right at our fingertips. No longer does one need to go in and study out of a book, rather they can speak to a device, "hey google, tell me..." This type of instant knowledge can be rather overwhelming and cause us to become concerned. When we focus more on buying and selling. Clothing and accessories. What to do or what to eat. We have turned into a beacon of worry and control. Jesus simply tells us not to worry, that He is in control. He states this very clearly that what we do, what we wear and what we eat is not the answer to true life. "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” (John 6:51)
The Lord went about His ministry on earth at peace with what He was doing. He fell asleep in the midst of a storm; "But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” (Mark 4:38)
He predicted His own death; "For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” (Luke 18:32-33)
He touched a leper with His own hands; "Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”
(Mark 1:41)
If we are to follow and imitate our Lord Jesus Christ, my question is this; why do we insist on letting anxiety get into our heart? If He is willing to touch a leper, calm a sea and go to the cross in pain; will He not take care of our peace as well? "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27)
When we are trying to go by what the world is telling us to do or feel we will begin to worry. This will lead to us attempting to take control of our own lives. This is God's role, not ours. The true gift in the light of Christ is His divine peace. All that He has He wishes to give us as we obey Him. "And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours." (Luke 15:31)
The Lord used this parable to explain what the Father has waiting for us to receive. Jesus paid the price, we choose Him and trust in His inheritance. When we fully join ourselves to Him, little by little each day those worries will go away, just as Jesus rested in the Father on earth and felt at peace with His will. Not to say we should not have any concerns what so ever rather when we do we shall cast it to Jesus right away and ask Him what we should do next about each situation. He always knows the right way. Jesus wants to feed us with the truth.
"For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
(John 6:33)
This reminds me of the Israelites complaining and worrying in the wilderness, asking God for food and water or else they will surely die. God had compassion on them and answered their requests.
"Yet He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven, Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven." (Psalms 78:23-24)
Time and time after this the Israelites still felt the need to worry about what was going to satisfy them next. Even though God was angry at their lack of faith in Him, He still had mercy remembering they were merely flesh;
"For He remembered that they were but flesh, A breath that passes away and does not come again." (Psalms 78:39)
God is merciful and we tend to just doubt Him yet again, dont we? We see miracles, we get fed, we have supplies to support ourselves, we have added pleasures and understanding of things; yet we still seem to worry now more then ever. I think the lesson in this is the more we ask for, the more we have and the more we delight in, the more our anxiety tends to increase. Just like the Israelites. What is the solution Jesus is giving us in all of this? All we should be searching for to fill our voids is Him. "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew 6:33)
When we put Jesus first in our hearts and desires, He will supply us with all that we need and then some. He wants us to have abundance. He wants us to be happy. Our lives mean so much to God, so much so that He gave His Son to die for us. He just wants our love and trust. He already knows what we need in life. It takes our faith to walk in this type of peace with God. Let us join together and truely search God, worship Him and not the world and feel our worries slip away as we do.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you for caring about me so much that You made a way for me to have Your peace. I choose to cast my cares on You and let go of any worry in my heart. I know my life is merely a vapor and I declare to enjoy it beside the Lord Jesus. Without You I would be lost in this world full of distractions. I pray to never complain against You, to trust in all that You have to give to my family and I and I vow to keep my faith in the things which are in heaven. I am praising You in the time of waiting and resting in You during the storms. For Your Name is greater then any other and I long to show that to all who are around me. Let me be a lighthouse of glory for You. I receive blessings today and all that You supply me that is necessary to further the Kingdom. It is in Your Name I pray this, Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
