One Accord

December 24, 2020

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

~Acts 2:1~

When I was sitting back moments ago watching Handel's Messiah suddenly it pierced my spirit; this verse from the Day of Pentacost and its relation to what I was seeing with my eyes and hearing with my ears in that moment. Something beautiful was taking place. I was admiring the different sounds of the tuned instruments as well as the patience and steadiness of how the orchestra worked side by side with eachother. I then noted the works of the conducter who helped to guide the different pieces of the song right into place to create beautiful symphony. As my mind got lost in this I began to hear the voice of the Lord speak to me saying "one accord." He was reminding me of what creates such a wonderful masterpiece such as this; they were all of one accord. When this happens the people involved do something together or at the same time because they are all in agreement with what should be done. If you take a look at this scene from the day of pentacost when the Holy Spirit fell on the crowd, we can notice it mentions how they were all with one accord in the same place. Everyone in that moment was of the same mind and in that moment were blessed beyond measure with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. If we rewind back to chapter 1 before the Holy Spirit arrived we notice in verse 14 it says; "These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication." Again, as one accord everyone in that upper room were making prayer and supplication. They believed the same and acted the same on it. Paul further goes on to remind us of the importance of being of the same mind with our brothers and sisters; "Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind." (Philippians 3:16)

Having attained the Holy Spirit which is the same Spirit in all, we must value Him the same with eachother. If we struggle with this we will not be working together in the body of Christ how the apostles had done and taught us to continue doing. If we have any disagreement in the church when it comes to the spiritual gifts or the gospel itself, we will not see the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our church as a whole and therefore we will notice ourselves out of sync with the rest of the orchestra, so to speak. We want to be in harmony with eachother with how we see the Lord and show Him to the world around us so we can be a pleasing sound to our Father, our Conducter. He leads us individually with what gifts He has supplied and He leads us as a whole connecting all the gifts together to fulfill the will of the Lord; " But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all." (I Corinthians 12:7)

The body cannot work to its full capacity without all its members functioning as one accord. Could you imagine if the strings section of the orchestra did not wish to work with the woodwinds section? If for example, they did not agree with the parts they played, if they compared their tasks as unfair or unecessary to be used all together. The conducter not only would become disappointed with the groups complaints, he would not be able to bless the audience with such a beautiful sound. He would have to either cut some out or change up the entire orchestra all together. On the Day of Pentacost, it is my belief that the Lord was pleased with the prayers, supplications and patience of all His people at the same time that He made the perfect appointed time of the biggest blessing there was to come since His own birth into this world; the gift of His Holy Spirit to guide us as the body of Christ. The Lord calls us to unite with our brothers and sister and be of the same mind to see the manifestations of God's glory taking place. Let us not doubt in the workings of the Holy Spirit and put aside our disagreements because you may be pleasantly suprised as the people in the upper room were on that Day of Pentacost. After the apostles received the Holy Spirit they proceeded to go forth as one body, of the same mind and in turn many healings, miracles and blessings of salvation were received for many people all around. I believe we can acheive these same blessings today the apostles did just by gathering together in one accord, as one mind, setting aside our disagreements, taking hold of the full gospel and seeing the glory fall on all of us at once! The words of the Lord Himself speaking to me "one accord," reminds me of His strong want of His people to gather together and allow the outpouring of His Holy Spirit on the church again so we as a whole can help the lost, the broken and the ones in bondage to be set free. How can we help those who need us if we can't come into agreement on how to do so? We must walk in the will of God together and believe in the power of the Holy Spirit that can perform miracles beyond what you could ever imagine. Jesus is calling us now my friends!

Prayer:

Father God, thank you for the original outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Again, You have as always come through with Your spoken promises. You are so faithful and true. I am forever grateful for the oppurtunity to know You and to live for You. Show me how I can fully understand all the gifts the Holy Spirit has to offer and to work as one accord with my fellow brothers and sisters, for I know in doing so our church will grow! Thank You Jesus for a constant reminder of the blessings You have to offer. Help me to share all You have to give this world! I believe in the same Spirit that led the apostles to work signs and wonders today just as He did then. I am willing to be used as Your vessel in all that You asign to me. May all the glory and praise be to You as I walk in Your will each day. My King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Amen.
