God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect.
~II Samuel 22:33~
As I began to pray to the Lord about this devotion, I asked what topic He wanted me to write about that could relate to so many of His people in this day and age. I was driving at the time and when I looked up into the sky the word "strength" came to my eyes. Yes, this is a true story in case you're wondering how I saw this word in the sky; God gives me visions at particular moments. He suprises me with them at times I never expect, this was one of those times. So as I gazed upon the word strength, I thought to myself "this is something that everyone certainly is asking for right now." Then Holy Spirit gave me a word telling me we must "always having our spotter, Jesus Christ, with us." If you are familiar with gyms or work outs in general, you understand how important it is for a person to have a spotter near by as they take on heavy equipment. Lifting weights is a building process. It takes time to be able to move up the levels as your muscles form enough to handle an increase. "For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building." (I Corinthians 3:9)
We are His temples and while building us to be able to withstand; He makes sure He is always right there beside us. Our Spotter gives us just enough to give us that support, the extra strength and muscle memory each time we lift something quite heavy. The Lord prepares us before hand as a spotter in a gym prepares the stations they will be tending to.
As we lay ourselves down at the feet of Jesus we may find ourselves becoming a bit too confident in our ability too quickly. We may begin to push ourselves without waiting for the Spotter to get there. If something were to happen and we begin to lift something too big too soon, we can either become crushed under our own control or stunned by our own weakness; "to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness."
(II Peter 1:6)
We must have self-control in order to obtain perseverance. When we trust in Jesus to hold us as we lift heavier things, we will know it is by His strength alone that we can grow in lifting more. May it always be for His glory that we strive to take on "more." The pride of life shuns away any kind of help. Our human instincts say "I can do it myself." Jesus spots us throughout our entire walk with Him. Today's verse explains just that, we should be recognizing that God is our strength and He is our power. Without His help, we would not be able to take on heavier loads. He builds our bodies, our souls, our spirits just enough to where we will be strong enough and ready for when He takes us to that next level. Let us not be foolish and go through each day without our Spotter beside of us. He knows what amount of weight we can add on and lift without getting hurt.
He knows when we may have gone too far and hurt ourselves.
He knows when the right time is for us to push ahead to the next level.
"God understands its way, And He knows its place." (Job 28:23)
Jesus is always right there to help us accomplish each task He brings to us. He doesn't expect us to do them alone. He spots us as we carry burdens, as we grow stronger physically and spiritually and as we are getting ready to slip on a larger weight. He will always guide us through to the next level. Are we willing to allow Him to train us correctly? Or are we jumping ahead to take on something too big that we are not ready for yet? "A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)
Jesus already has a perfect training plan lined up for us, we must be patient in knowing He will not bring us to the next step until we can handle it without getting hurt. Let us listen to our great Spotter in life.
Prayer:
Gracious God, thank you for being there for me each moment I take on something greater. I know You will guide me properly and prepare me for heavier weights in life. With You, I will have the strength and power to do so. I pray Holy Spirit conviction if I am rushing too fast beyond what You wish me to do. I desire to be aligned to Your path each and everyday. I trust in Your training, teaching and help. Without You, I am weakened. I praise my King for never leaving my side as I grow in strength and I want each step I take next to be for Your glory alone. You always look after Your children so that they do not hurt themselves and for that I am so grateful. Remind me to always take things slow and to rely on You, my Spotter, to be that constant helping hand. It is in Your Name I receive strength, power and most of all patience, Jesus Christ. Amen.
