Light In The Dark

January 25, 2021

And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.

~Genesis 1:4~

At the beginning of creation God was looking at a world covered in darkness. When He applied light He saw that it was good. Notice how we don't read about the darkness being good? God immediately divided the two, scripture says. Darkness causes one to stumble. Light causes one to see. Have you ever tried to feel your way through your house in a power outage before? Sticking your arms out wide and swinging them back and forth as you walk to see what you are around as you make your way to where you need to go. Sometimes it may follow with a sudden feeling of anxiety in your gut as you hope to not fall or hit an object. I wonder how God felt hovering above the waters in the darkness. I'm sure He didn't feel anxiety or need to stretch His arms out to find His way, however He felt an urge to have light just as we would walking in darkness. We live in a world full of natural light and other forms of light such as lamps, bulbs and flashlights; but things still seem so dark don't they? Without Jesus beside us it will feel very dark, I know because I lived that life and it sure was very dark. "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

When we are following Jesus and relying on Him for every step we take we have that divine light guiding us around a dark world. God always had His hand in the world one form or another but when Jesus came a whole new light appeared in the natural. The world, although full of light, is living in darkness. Sin is rampant, the devil is at work trying to cause people to fall. The Father sent His Son to this world to save it from spiritual darkness and eternal darkness; "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love."(Colossians 1:13)

We now, through Jesus Christ, have been saved from bondage to satan's power of darkness. The Holy Spirit dwelling in each of us shines as a beaming light to those dark spirits around us, claiming the Lord's victory.

The world did not receive its own Creator the way we would imagine, in fact it hated Him. "The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil."

(John 7:7)

Jesus calls out the sin of the world and puts it to death. For those who choose to put theirs to death can follow Him. You may end up being hated eventually for it but Jesus gives us a comforting reminder of what it would be like for those who truely loved and followed Him; "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you."

(John 15:18)

If we are fully aligning ourself up to Jesus and being one with Him, we will be hated for it by some, especially the devil. I know you're thinking, "How is this a comforting thought?" If we are representing Jesus Christ in our lives and being hated for it and attacked for it, we are actually imitating Him and this is beautiful for me to meditate on personally. He came to be with us forever. He came to deliver us. Anything that is against us will not prevail for the Lord is with us shining His light over us; "He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me; For they were too strong for me."

(II Samuel 22:18)

Apart from Jesus, we can do nothing. With Him we can do all things as He strengthens us! The sweet sacrifice of God's only Son for us to walk in divine light for the rest of our life shows His amazing love He has for all of us, especially to those without the Lord. If we, having the light of the Lord are going out into the world representing Jesus truely for what He is; those who are lost in darkness who have been desparately searching for a light to follow as they have been walking around the world with their arms stretched wide trying to find their way around, will be drawn to us without even knowing why. This is what the Lord calls us to be. I was once so lost in the darkness of this world, I stumbled around for many years searching for something to fill this void in my heart. I felt just as the earth felt before anything was ever made, without form and void. I needed something to help me, to separate me from this shadow hovering around me. I tried almost everything to feel "complete," I always felt there was something just missing in me. I now understand what that was, or I should say who that was. When Jesus came into my life and I began to see this light appear above me, it instantly separated all of the darkness inside of me and replaced it with pure light. I finally felt complete. I have never felt it before. The light was there and the darkness ran.

"And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." (John 1:5)

I haven't looked back since. My only concern now is to make sure each day I am shining this gift of divine light that was given to me on to others who desparately are searching, just as I was. When Jesus gave Himself for our sins, the sky above became dark as the fullness of sin and curse was upon Him; "Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour."

(Luke 23:44)

This reminds us of what we are truely surrounded by each day. The sin of the world and its darkness. Jesus came to remove that for us. He came to make us His.

Jesus doesn't save us so that we can remain on our own, comfortable and free until we go to heaven. Jesus saves us so we can go out and be used to help save others. Our reward is in heaven but here on earth we can still have divine peace just as He gives us divine light. All is available to us, we must ask.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7)

It is persistence that needs to take place in us, with the help of our Lord we can have blessings each day as we follow the Light. The next time we feel ourselves stumbling around, we must immediately turn to Jesus. He is there to be the Way. He will allow you to see what step to take next. Trust in Him. Thank God for His natural and supernatural light as you remember creation and the first step He took to give light to us. He knew we would need it.

Prayer:

Gracious God, thank you for being the light to my path, for guiding me and directing me to where I need to go. Thank you for saving me with the light of Your Son. I didn't deserve it but You loved me so much that You made a way. Show me what steps I need to take today to be that beam of light into this darkness around me. Help me to show Your Glory to people who need You. Just as Paul said, "I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need." Without You, Jesus, I would still be hungry today. What can I do for You? Help me to understand. Fill me with knowledge and wisdom that comes from above. Holy Spirit dwell in me stronger as I walk in this light of the Lord. Let us snatch more people out of the darkness. I receive this prayer, I praise You for the ability to pray it. May all glory and praise be to You today in all that I do. In the brightest Name, Yeshua my King. Amen.
