For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives.
~Hebrews 9:16-17~
Creating a will as a part of an estate plan ensures the person making the will, known as the Testator, will have their wishes followed and that the people closest to them are taken care of. Upon the death of Jesus His will was laid out to His disciples and He clearly states even after His ressurection what is to be for those who are His. When we come to accept Jesus into our life we are adopted into His family. We are officially children of God, joint heirs in Christ. "and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together."
(Romans 8:17)
The true beauty of the bible itself is not just the fact that it is truth or that it is instructions on how to live a holy life; but the idea that it is Jesus' last will and testament and He is the Testator. There can be no covenant without blood shed. This was proved with the first testament by Moses with sacrifices of calves and goats as he stated clearly; “This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words.” (Exodus 24:8)
There is no remission of sins without shedding of blood. The glory behind the Blood of Jesus is it takes care of all sin, there is no longer a need for sacrifice when we accept His blood covenant. "So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit." (John 19:30)
From here on out His children could gather around and receive all the promises He gave us in His testament. A will also includes a provision so that the Testator's future children are covered by the terms of this will. All children should be included in the family description, even if the Testator does not plan to leave them anything in the will. The glory about Jesus' Will is He does include all of His children in hopes they will accept His gifts. In the natural there is only a limited amount of gifts to receive to certain children. In the kingdom the Lord is reaching out to all of His children to gift us in abundance! " The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."(John 10:10)
The sad part is not all will want to receive it. His Will clearly states what we have when it comes to healing; "who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness— by whose stripes you were healed." (I Peter 2:24)
It tells us we are forgiven completely of our sins "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." (Matthew 26:28)
It allows us to be righteous and holy along with Him; "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
(II Corinthians 5:21)
It shows us we have no need to worry for He is in control; "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Matthew 6:34)
It provide us genuine peace; "and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7)
Most of all it gives us eternal life in heaven beside Jesus; "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
(John 17:3)
The Father's Last Will and Testament is final, perfect and worthy. He came in the flesh to give us these many blessings and all it takes is for us to trust Him, reach out and take them. Just if you were to sit down at a will and testament reading of a loved one who recently passed away; you would hear all of the things you would be receiving if you were interested and it would be your job to take them or leave them. This works the same only these things are not temporary, they are eternal; "while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." (II Corinthians 4:18)
If we have no problem receiving the seen for a time being why do we have such trouble receiving the things which are unseen but are far greater then we could ever imagine? It takes our faith to reach out and take what Jesus has died to give us. Health, prosperity, strength, peace, love and life. These are ours if we are to follow Him and read His Testament to understand more what is ours eternally. It is fascinating that God loves us all so much that He was willing to put His Son to death so that we could be joint heirs and have a way to receive so many promises He strives to give us all. I pray more people come to know Him, accept Him as Lord and follow His ways. More people need the understanding of what He has truely set out to give us all. It's up to us to take our inheritance or leave it be. The power is available through the Blood of Jesus Christ.
Prayer:
Gracious God, hallowed be thy Name. Thank you for you precious Son's sacrifice so that His Testament would officially be available to me. I receive all the promises of God into my life. All blessings and glory may reign upon my family as the death of Jesus Christ is not in vain.
