And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”
~Exodus 33:14-16~
Moses was always one to be rather curious about each assignment God called Him to do. He was a man who got nervous fast, tended to be a bit resistant at times and doubted in himself quite a bit. The Lord knew exactly each step Moses would take and still chose to use him and chose to talk with him face to face; "So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle."
(Exodus 33:11)
We serve a God who longs to speak with us in the same manner, as a friend. When Moses asked God who will be going with him, he received a simple yet powerful response. God basically told Moses, I am!
What better of a presence then that of the Father Himself? Moses knew the importance of having God with him, he knew he did not want to move further without this promise coming into effect. We know it most certainly did and always will, as God never lies; He always keeps His word. "O Lord God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O Lord ? Your faithfulness also surrounds You."
(Psalms 89:8)
Moses was granted much favor with the Lord as he entered into the Presence of the Holy One. He longed to see God's glory and so he did. "So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by."
(Exodus 33:22)
When God passed by to show Moses a glimpse of His glory He protected him in that moment. He knew that seeing too much of Him would cause Moses to die. However, he did see His back and that is more then enough to see how glorious the Father truely is. There is nothing like the very sight of God, and this is the One who goes with us!
"Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God." (Matthew 5:8)
Jesus tells us that anything is truely possible with God. God Himself told Moses He would be gracious to whom He will be gracious and He would have compassion on whom He will have compassion. God's favor rested upon Moses and it can rest upon us wherever we may go. We must hunger for it just as Moses did. We must be willing to worship and pray just as Moses did. We must be in total submission no matter how uncomfortable that may feel, just as Moses did. The glory of God may be shown to us as we do. God is the same God. Moses is not the first one to see Him and is very certain not the last. As we abide in the Presence of the Lord, He longs to make Himself known here each day, as this is His creation. Just as Moses promised the Father; we too are to be separate from the rest of the people that are on the earth. Those who believe are to become as aliens to the world. For this place is not our true home. Our home is with God; "Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him."
(John 14:23)
When we can put on the mind set that was in God's past chosen ones, we can truely honor God the way He deserves to be honored. The longing in our hearts will deepen for the very sight of His glory. We will be truely sanctified and washed by His word. There is no greater rest then in the Presence of the Almighty. God is still with us, even more so His Son beside us and His Holy Spirit inside us. Jesus Christ gave us a greater hope then Moses even had. We should be embracing every single moment of it with Him. "by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant."
(Hebrews 7:22)
God is still with us. God still directs our path. As we hope in Him and rely on His Presence the way Moses did we will begin to speak to Him more as a friend then just a diety. Jesus has emotions, Jesus has longings, Jesus wants us to want His Presence just as much as Moses craved to see God's glory. Jesus is willing as we are willing. Let us enter into His Presence and receive His divine rest with glory.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for divine rest. Thank you for becoming a surety of a better covenant, that I may see You face to face and embrace You in heaven. I am grateful for the opportunity to have fellowship with You each day. There is no greater presence then Yours. I trust that no matter where You send me, You are there with me. I know that all things will work out perfectly as You direct my steps. I shall not fear for You are with me. Lord, use me each day as a blessing to direct those who You need me to, so they may feel Your Presence in their day. Shine the light of Christ through me and reveal the things that are hidden in darkness. I long for more of You, less of me. I pray this in Your Name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
