He Paves The Way, We Choose To Stay

June 20, 2021

Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

~Psalms 25:4~

Each day we have a choice to plan our own day or to allow the Lord to take charge. We know our Lord wants what is best for all of us. He loves us enough to plan the way, it is up to us if we want to let Him actually "take the wheel," like that song many people tend to quote or joke about. There Jesus is beside us from the moment we wake up to the moment we shut our eyes to sleep again. Do we find ourselves calling out to Him from the start of our day, or thank Him as we go to lay down at night?

"From the rising of the sun to its going down The Lord’s name is to be praised."

(Psalms 113:3)

We are a people who should hunger to be led, fed and taught by Jesus Christ. His wisdom is unending and He longs to share His mysteries with those who search for them; "Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God."

(I Corinthians 4:1)

This deep relationship is like a well with no bottom. The Lord paves a path for each and everyone of us. We all have a purpose, we all have a way to go, yet He leads us all by His hand and wants us all to end up at the same destination. It is up to us whether we want to follow this path or get distracted by something along the way. If you think about how a person were to go for a walk with their dog, leading them on a leash which has the option of over extending past the owners position. The dog gets curious sniffing along the path as its owner continues along. The dog seems to find something off the path that grabs its attention and gets side tracked, perhaps it seemed harmless to the dog yet the owner notices a person riding a bicycle nearly running into said dog. Perhaps even the dog gets stung by a bee as he presses his nose into the grass which is not on this path. Or perhaps the leash gets caught around a tree and tangled up until the owner breaks them free. Now I am not saying we are Jesus' dogs. We are human after all, however we do tend to become just as easily distracted by our own interests, dont we?

We need Jesus just as much as a dog needs their owner. Are we willing to admit it?

The Lord may be wanting us to go one way today, yet we choose to "sniff in the other direction." It seems to be hard for some of us to follow our Owner who is out of our physical eye sight.

"so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us." (Acts 17:27)

Jesus is never far from us, even as we decide to over extend our own "leashes" and venture off in the wrong direction. He still is holding that other end allowing us to learn for ourselves in the choices we make. The Lord is willing to teach us, but will not force it upon us. One can only learn if they are willing to. Are we willing to? Are we wanting to stay on His path rather then wandering off getting tangled up in the cares of this world?

"and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful." (Mark 4:19)

Let us choose to stay next to Jesus. Let us ask Jesus each day what it is we should be doing for His Kingdom. We are serving God who is above, beneath and below. He is the reason we have a choice to follow Him or not. He could have left us on a leash alone without holding on to it. He chose to keep us, let us choose to keep Him too. "You shall follow what is altogether just, that you may live and inherit the land which the Lord your God is giving you." (Deuteronomy 16:20)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for paving my way with Your Son Jesus Christ. I pray You will always lead me each day in where I need to be so that I am always aligned to Your will. If there is any curiousness in me that causes me to wander off I ask this to be broken off me in the Name of Jesus now. Help me to stay alert and aware against any deception. I never want to stray away from Your guidance. I am grateful for Your wisdom. I long for more understanding and a clear mind which tells me where You need me not where the world needs me. I praise You and exalt Your Name, for You have given me the life to do so. My Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
