God's BFF

March 4, 2021

Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever?

~II Chronicles 20:7~

When we think back to our past with friends growing up we can giggle and remember the silly handshakes we made that only "we knew," or the promises of "always being best friends." Those little necklaces that were split in half that we would share and show the "proof" of our friendship to one another. A physical agreement, if you would. We make promises we tend to not keep, we promise to always be there yet we leave one another behind and suddenly our necklaces and handshakes are forgotten items. This verse made me smile because the Holy Spirit pressed it on my heart that God truely commits to being our "BFF." Forever is such a strong statement. With God we can have this. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

With God lies are non existant; "in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began."(Titus 1:2)

With God love is real and true. "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us." (Ephesians 2:4)

The Father makes covenants and these are completely unbreakable to Him. Once He speaks it, it is done and He does not turn back on His word. When He made this covenant with Abraham, He made it with us who are the "seeds" of him. "And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise."

(Galatians 3:29)

So for those who are sitting there thinking, "All my friends just end up leaving me," or "I can never keep a best friend." I have good news for you, God is our BFF! That's right, I am sure you are thinking this is kind of corny however, this is coming from the Holy Spirit Himself. He wants us to know that you've got a friend in God and He will never leave you! "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

(Deuteronomy 31:6)

When God becomes our "friend," He takes it very seriously and so should we. Abraham did as he was willing to sacrifice his own son because the Lord simply asked him to; "And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son." (Genesis 22:10)

He was serious as he interceeded for Sodom; "Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord."

(Genesis 18:27)

This is true friendship, this is what the Lord craves of us to have with Him. People who will trust in Him no matter what He is asking of us. People who will sacrifice themselves to help any of His children to be saved.

God's covenant with Abraham is His covenant with us after we come to follow the Lord Jesus. For the Seed which came from him is now a part of us and the promise given is everlasting through Christ; "Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ."

(Galatians 3:15‭-‬16)

We are one with Christ and eachother.

What better of a friendship could you ask for then the Lord God Almighty's? We are so blessed my friends! Just as the stars are numerous so are the Lord's friends and He is willing to do whatever it takes to make us joyful! "No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you." (John 15:15)

When we truely know Jesus, rather then about Jesus, we become His BFF and we do not even need necklaces or silly handshakes to proove it. It is deep within our hearts and nobody can take that away from us!

Some days we may feel like we dont have that friend who "gets us," we may feel discouraged and alone and need a "friend to vent to." My friends take heed, for God is always that friend and He isn't going anywhere! It is up to us to stay faithful to Him just as Abraham did.

Prayer:

Gracious God, my dear Friend, thank you for making a way for me to know You. Thank you for the everlasting promise You gave to Abraham that I can now partake in through my Lord Jesus Christ. You knew from the foundations of the world that I would be sitting here praying to You and choosing You and I am forever grateful for this opportunity of true life. I know our bond cannot be broken unless I myself break it. I vow not to Lord. Show me if there is any offensive way in me to rid myself of. Teach me to grow and strengthen my fellow brothers and sisters. Use me as a intercessor as You did with Abraham. I am Yours. I declare that I am Your BFF Jesus, no matter how silly it may seem to others, I love You and I love Your friendship that is forever mine. Praise be to God Almighty who wants relationship with all of creation and is so patient to wait for it. May glory and honor be given to You today! In the Name of my King and my Friend, Jesus Christ. Amen.
