Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice.
~Psalms 55:17~
It is so amazing to me that as a mother I can recognize my own child's voice from afar. I can understand it is her and I can tell if she is in need for something, hurting in some way or just playing around. The different tones of her voice I can recognize instantly and I will know how to respond right away. My mother instincts take over and I just "know." The beautiful connection a parent has for their child is breath taking, however, the connection that God has to each and everyone of us is even more unique and wondrous! Just as I can recognize my daughters cries, screams and joy in her voice; our Father in heaven can do so for each and everyone of us, as David shares with us in this psalm. Jesus told us that His sheep hear His voice; "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."
(John 10:27)
He already knows all of us yet not all of us know Him and hear Him. Just as the Lord can determine which of His children is speaking right away, we could so easily understand when our King speaks to us the closer we are connected to Him, just as I am connected to my daughter. The more we go to Him in spirit and our hearts become close to His, we will hear Him. Again, He already hears all of us, He is just awaiting us to hear Him too. What a beautiful God we have who waits in patience for us to listen.
"I cried out to God with my voice— To God with my voice; And He gave ear to me."
(Psalms 77:1)
There is not a moment that goes by when Jesus is not listening to us and knowing just whose voice it is. This is how personal He is to all of us. This is how sovereign He truely is! There is nothing too big for the Lord to handle! He truely loves us. Even when it seems nobody else hears us, He sure does! He leans in and waits for us to call out for Him. He longs to help us, but we must accept His help and let go of our own control. "And the Lord said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out of here altogether." (Exodus 11:1)
The Lord longs to give us freedom, to go to a place of worship to Him. He makes a way for us to follow Him to where He needs us to be, away from things that may be damaging to us. He knows what is best for all of our walks in life. Just like i will guide my daughter what to do and what not to do, Jesus will guide us with His Spirit as we listen to Him. We must take heed not to listen to our own voice or the voice of wickedness. Those will always try to get in the way. "And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish." (Luke 4:6)
We have an enemy who waits to distract us from hearing the voice of God. The devils only desire is to make us turn away from the Lord's path. We must be alert at all times, rebuking all distractions from our prayer life and journey; casting down flesh and emotions from our beings so we can hear what the Lord is telling us to do. We will be able to recognize the difference the more we do so as we abide and stand true to the faith that is in us. "Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified." (II Corinthians 13:5)
We must be searching ourselves more then anyone else. We must cry out to God as He awaits the sound of His children's call for help. There is not a day that goes by I do not pray against deception and hinderance of the devil, as I know if he came at Jesus this way, surely he will be coming to test me. I cannot afford to slip away for a second from my Lord. "Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on." (Proverbs 4:14-15)
As we turn away from evil and turn towards the cross we can hear the loving voice of God and rest in His assurance. The joy of the love He has for us all will fill us. He knows our voices, He loves our voices, He smiles at the very sound of our unique voices which He has made and He longs to keep hearing them! Let us be consistant in calling out to Jesus, He will know exactly what we need before we say it! He will not have to come running as we do for our own children, He is already there! "nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21)
He is in us and is waiting to hear from us. He brings comfort to His children, strength to our bodies, rest to our souls and love to our hearts. Let us run to our Father when we have a question, concern or care for He is waiting to take control for us!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for Your steadfast love that is able to recognize my voice as I call out to You. I am grateful for the ability to hear Your voice speaking and leading me. I renounce any feelings that do not align up to You. I rebuke every distraction and hinderance the devil may throw at me today, it is not welcome. I praise You Jesus for the incredible love You have for Your children. Thank you for never giving up on me Lord and leading me each day from faith to faith, glory to glory. Show me what I am to do for You today. In Your most loving Name I pray, Jesus Christ. Amen.
