So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.”
~John 6:12~
Jesus is referred to as the Bread of life. We fill ourselves on His heavenly manna of wisdom and strength. "I am the bread of life."
(John 6:48)
We fast and fill ourselves on scripture and prayer. This is our spiritual food and it gives us energy like we can get no other place. When the people gathered around physically hungry, Jesus used this time as another way to provide food, perform a miracle and teach the gospel all at once. God can take one thing and get many things accomplished within it! He multiplied bread in front of their very eyes; "And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted." (John 6:11)
After His people were filled, Jesus made sure to instruct His disciples to gather up all of the leftover fragments so that none would be lost. If we dive into this word we can see the deeper meaning behind what Jesus was saying. When we, being believers, are filling ourselves with spiritual manna we will grow in strength being able to carry out the full gospel to share to others so they may not be lost. The Father's will is for none to perish and in order to help souls come to the Lord we must go out and gather them with word and deed; "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
(Colossians 3:17)
In order for us to go out and glorify God, we must first be filled with His food. Walking in the power of Holy Spirit, so that those who are starving for the Lord will receive with us.
We are disciples of Christ Jesus and we are the ones to gather up those fragments and have them ready for the next "hungry person." Let us share in what the Lord has given to each of us so that none go hungry. There surely is enough bread to go around.
Jesus makes sure that His followers are healed, redeemed and filled before sending them out just as He Himself was to be after He was sent into the wilderness, overcoming satans temptations. "Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region." (Luke 4:14)
After Jesus was filled with His own spiritual food He began His ministry and called upon His disciples to follow Him. Now He calls us to do the same. Do we remember how Elijah felt when he became spiritually starved running from Jezebel? He wanted to be done all together with his life. He had no more motivation in him and was tired from running. God sent an angel to feed him first before sending him out in power; "And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.”
(I Kings 19:7)
God knows what we need to move on to the next level with him. Elijah's story is a lot like Jesus' disciples story isnt it? God has us rest, relax in His presence, eat our food and gain back our spirit man's strength to go on to walk in our anointing.
Are we feeling spiritually starved? Let us come to God for His heavenly manna, His word and His strength so that we may then gather together those of which fragments are left, leaving none lost. For the woman of Canaan said it best; "And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
(Matthew 15:27)
This Bread is welcome for all to eat. Let us be filled and share.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you for feeding me with the Bread of life so that I may know true strength and be able to feed others. I am blessed to have provision in both ways. I trust that as I grow in intimacy with Jesus, I will be well equipped to gather up the left over fragments as You lead me to. I pray for any parts of me that is hungry to be fed with the right type of food. Lord, only You know what I need. I am surrendering myself spiritually, physically and whole heartedly. I want to fulfill the purpose of saving lost souls with You. In the Name of my King Jesus I praise and worship, Jesus Christ. Amen.
