Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
~Psalms 124:7~
Today the Lord's response to me as I prayed for what I am to write about made me smile from ear to ear. He says to me, "I want you to write about the birds, I want My children to know this is how I see them."
I began to pray further and discern just exactly what He meant by this statement. Birds have always been rather fascinating to me. There are many different kinds, many different ways they speak and each bird has its own way of surviving. However, they all share in one common factor, they have free range to fly. Now I know what you are thinking, "well Kayla, you know some species of birds can't fly." Yes I am aware this is the case but today I want to focus on the birds of the air. Each of which build a nest for their young, soar around looking for food and have enough power in their wings to go miles away on exploration. The freedom they must feel when they can reach so high up in the clouds and come right back down to their family. The Lord sees us in this same manner. He has made us all very unique with different colors, personalities and tones. He watches as we gather our young into our "nests" and work to obtain food while living a life pretty free to explore what we choose.
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36)
Just as the birds of the air know who their Creator is as they chirp melodies on high, we too have the ability to sings songs of praise to our God. We are His flock; "You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord God."
(Ezekiel 34:31)
Jesus' desire is for us to fly to our freedom with Him. A bird believes that the winds of the air will sustain them in flight. They do not hesitate to do exactly what they are called to do to survive. They are indeed the animals closest to the heavenlies. We are also closest to the heavenlies.
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
(Hebrews 4:16)
We have the authority to come to God's throne and commune with Him in Heaven and believe me when I say in Spirit when you reach God, it feels just as though you are flying as a bird would fly. God supplies every bird of the air with an abundance of food for their young and for themselves. He cares enough about them, think of how much He cares for us in the same.
"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" (Matthew 6:26)
I know if you are anything like myself, you sometimes see a little bird hopping around and you find yourself talking to it, chirping at it and smiling as you study its familiar mannerisms. All you wish you could do is to hold it close and admire its beauty and sound. This is exactly how our Father views each of us. He admires His children, He longs to hold us and sing with us and He longs for us to have the freedom to fly to our destiny; "Like birds flying about, So will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; Passing over, He will preserve it. ” (Isaiah 31:5)
He is the Protector of His flock and no matter how often we get ourselves stuck in a cage of confusion and sorrow, Jesus is there to open the door and help us be set free.
His desire is that we all are to fly to freedom, declaring the works of the Lord on our journey and taking care of our young in the same. If you haven't already, go ahead and sit outside, take a look at the birds all around. Watch how many different ones you see pass by, listen for every unique sound of praise they sing and admire their beauty as they live each day to the fullest. We can thank our Father for our ability to admire different species of animals each day. Our world would be a pretty boring world without them, dont you agree? God wants adventure for us. He does not wish for us to live in a cut and dry enviroment. He loves for us to feel the joy of our surroundings that He has made just for us; "Behold, this is the joy of His way, And out of the earth others will grow." (Job 8:19)
God creates in abundance, He gives in abundance and He loves in abundance. Let us imagine ourselves as one of His birds of the air, receiving the freedom Jesus gave us to truely spread our wings and fly. There is so much to be thankful for. As the devil attempts to make you feel trapped in his cage, you have the ability to call upon the Lord in praise and be saved! Jesus will always come and deliver us from the snare of the fowler. We have surely escaped and our new wings have been given to us, we are His and He is ours. Let us rejoice in the freedom that was given to us at Calvary and fly high with the Lord declaring victory in the air just as the birds declare victory in their voices.
Prayer:
Abba Father, thank you for sustaining me each day just as You do for the birds of the air. I am grateful to be Yours and to be loved by You so much. I have just a taste of the joy You feel for us as I watch Your creation sore down and chirp my way, bringing me to smile and know just as much You care. Thank you for my freedom to sore and be the man/woman You have created me to be. I am nothing more and nothing less. May I receive the freedom that is in Christ today and sore high like a bird. I praise thee for the gift of joy and abundance and give all glory to You, my Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Amen.
