Find The Treasure

March 13, 2021

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."

~Matthew 13:44~

Jesus describes the kingdom of heaven as hidden treasure. This parable speaks of not only what we can do to attain this treasure but what He has done for us to allow us to find it. If we back track to verse 38 we can see how Jesus symbolizes the field as the world; "The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one."

(Matthew 13:38)

When Jesus came to the earth in the flesh of His own creation He came to buy it back. He sold all that He had to purchase us back from the grips of the enemy. He sacrificed everything for us to receive His treasure. "For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."(I Corinthians 6:20)

When we make the decision to receive Jesus into our life, we are finding this hidden treasure planted in the earth. We all have the opportunity to gain access to this amazing treasure by trusting in the One who purchased it for us. We know that it is not far from us once we accept it into our lives; "nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

(Luke 17:21)

Once we have received our gift of treasure it lives within us, we can be with it every day. We must believe. Have you have seen your child play treasure hunt? They love to imagine and believe that certain objects are hidden treasure and they light up with joy as they feel like they have found what they have been looking for. We should be taking notes of how our children perceive these treasure hunts seriously, when it comes to God's treasure and ourselves; His glorious kingdom that we cannot physically see yet we believe it is worth everything to us and then some.

"Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:4)

We can "play a game of treasure hunt" as we search for the Lord Jesus Christ in our everyday life and feeling like we struck gold just by being alive and adopted into His Family. We should be constantly thankful and receiving all that He has for us to do.

"having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will." (Ephesians 1:5)

Jesus truely considered us His treasure when He purchased us through His blood. He wanted us all to enter into His gates. There may be things we are to give up on our part to do so; "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." (Romans 12:1)

Just as Jesus gave everything to purchase His people and His earth, there are things we must sacrifice to live holy as He is holy. The kingdom of heaven is open to those who look for it and receive it with all of their heart.

Our Lord is so amazing to us for all that He has done and given to us. To think that we, as children of God, have the ability to go on a vast treasure hunt and then invite others to join with us. Jesus is thinking "the more the merrier." He wants us all to be rich in spirit.

"but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:20‭-‬21)

When our heart is truely with Jesus in His kingdom, nobody can strip that away from us. The only one in the way of our inheritance is ourselves. "It shall be, in regard to their inheritance, that I am their inheritance. You shall give them no possession in Israel, for I am their possession." (Ezekiel 44:28)

Jesus gave us an amazing gift. Let us continue to search in this treasure hunt, for we should feel like we can never get enough of it! "A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.” (John 16:16)

If we keep our inheritance with our whole heart, one day we shall meet our Maker.

Thank you Jesus for a land flowing with milk and honey! Thank you for giving us access!

Prayer:

Gracious God, thank you for giving us access to the kingdom of God through the blood of Your Son. Without His purchase I know I would not be able to see this treasure. I vow to continously search out the kingdom within me as I am hungry for more. I declare to lay up spiritual treasures and to not focus on things of this world. Thank you Jesus for loving me so much. I declare today will be blessed for the kingdom of heaven is within me. Use me today to show the world how to hunt for the treasure that was given to all of us so freely. Praises be to the King of Kings for His blood that has redeemed me and allowed me to enter into His gates with thanksgiving. In Your Name I pray, Jesus Christ. Amen.
