From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
~Psalms 61:2~
Our Father in Heaven is magnificent, He provides to those who lean on Him and even to those who do not. He is faithful to remain at our side and get us through tough circumstances. His protection is Mighty and nothing can withstand against Him. There are days when life feels so draining, when it seems as though we cannot seem to take another step without wanting to weep. Days that seem gloomy even as the sun is out shining down on our face. Hours that crawl by when our bodies are just ready for sleep. God is right there when our spirits feel overwhelmed. David got overwhelmed at times and he knew that there was only one way to get through it, by crying out to the One who can bring Him deep inner peace again.
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."
(Philippians 4:6)
When we cry out to God in our times of despair, when our hearts feel troubled and we can't seem to understand why or how; we must go to the Rock that is Higher then us.
Jesus is our Rock. When we take a stand upon our Lord and embrace His Presence in the midst of a storm we shall not be moved;
"He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved."
(Psalms 62:2)
Are you looking around and thinking about all of the injustice, all of the financial crisis, the starving families or the lost souls, the job that causes you to want to pull your hair out or your car that is on its last leg? Is discouragement knocking at your door? There is comfort in running to God and crying out to Him in these times. He is waiting to bless us as we rest and wait on Him. We may not understand it all, we may not be aware of how to move next and we may not be ready to stand tall but Jesus keeps us from sinking in the sand that the world has us in. The Rock that brings us Higher then any bird can fly. God is our refuge. We are so blessed to have our Father, a Savior and Holy Spirit filling us with an everlasting love and strength as we feel so low. Let's face it, this world isn't all "puppies and kittens." We are surrounded by much that may overwhelm us. A word of advice, focus on the One who made the world rather then the one who breaks the world; "My help comes from the Lord , Who made heaven and earth." (Psalms 121:2)
Rocks can only be thrown so far, can withstand immense weather conditions and can form strong structural foundations.
When life gets hard, as it did for David; we can always run to God our Rock and refuse to let the enemy shake us down with overwhelming emotions, heavy fatigue and drain our spiritual energy. The Lord will fight for us. "Trust in the Lord forever, For in YAH, the Lord , is everlasting strength."
(Isaiah 26:4)
I dont know the struggles you are facing in this moment, but I do know the One who knows each and every one of those struggles you carry and I can tell you He is truely faithful and strong enough to carry you through. There are good days and there are not so good days, but God is always in the midst of both. Let us run to God and be honest with how we are feeling even if it is unpleasant, God already knows it all and wants us to come to Him with pure honesty and open arms to run to His eternal protection. It is everlasting and unable to be taken from us. His love forbids us to stand alone; "Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me."
(John 16:32)
Even Jesus knew as He walked this wicked earth that there was no sight hidden from God, that He did not act alone. We too, have God with us. We too, can hold onto that confidence Jesus grasped and walk through this land with great assurance that we stand on the Rock that is Higher than us.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Almighty God, thank you for always being my divine protection. I stand upon the Rock, Your Son, that is Higher than I. With Him, I can do all things for He is my strength. Let me Highly exalt Your Name each day no matter how my soul may be feeling in the moment for I know You are with me, You will never forsake me. I am praising You for Your steadfast grace and mercy that is new each day. Let all honor and glory be given to You. Let my grief be stripped from me, let my sadness be delivered, let my hopelessness be kindled forever for You are far Greater then anything I may face or feel. I pray and receive an uplifting spirit today as I go on according to Your will, in the Name of My Rock, my King Jesus Christ. Amen.
