Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.
~Proverbs 12:25~
The Lord pressed me today to write about a growing issue within this world around us; Depression. The spirit of heaviness is upon many people and while we have several who are on medication to numb some of this pain, we have the One true God who is calling out to those who need a relief. He is telling us that His love can surpass the emotions that tend to overflow us and take control so rapidly. The Lord has the ability to and longs for the go ahead to from us; "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness." (Psalms 30:11)
David lived a rather depressing life at times yet He always turned to God. There was no way for David to go except to God and His comfort. David had great success in this; turning to the Lord. Jesus encourages us with His word. "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms." (James 5:13)
When we feel sad, overwhelmed or alone in this world we can turn to Jesus each and everytime and pray for the comfort and strength to fill us. The Lord is faithful to help those who trust in Him. If we put our trust in the things of this world, we will never be fully filled. We will still feel an empty part within us calling out for the Lord, which we cannot understand until it is filled with Him. I know this from personal experience before I knew the cure, that which is Jesus, for the sadness I lived through. I ended up in an all time low in my life. Nothing was working for me; drugs, therapy, fun events or anything else in this world I tried to fill my sadness with never worked, in fact I only got worse. It happened right up until the point I nearly took my own life. The Lord then stopped me abruptly and delivered me. I was cured in that moment and can honestly say I have been a new creation since that day. Nothing else worked aside from Jesus and His word began to fill me and I craved more each day; I still do! We can never get enough encouragement from the Lord. We can never get enough encouragment from our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are one in His Body, here to edify eachother in times of despair. "Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing."
(I Thessalonians 5:11)
Solomon says that a good word makes one glad; what better of a word then that which is in Christ Jesus? The more we align to His image, the more we can lift our fellow friends up who need more of His truth in times of sadness or heartbreak. "For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up."(Ecclesiastes 4:10)
Jesus is our main cure for any issue. There is nothing He cannot take for us. He cares for all of us and He calls us to love the same way for those in need. If there is something truely heart wrenching in your life right now, if you just dont feel like this world is worth it to you or you can't seem to find peace; my friends, turn to the Lord and pray like you have never prayed before. The Lord is right there waiting to guide you and to make you glad in your spirit. "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit." (Psalms 34:18)
If Jesus can cure me and deliver me from suicide, all kinds of other spirits that lived upon me and allow me to pick up my mat and walk, then He can for sure deliver you from any kind of depression that is upon you in this moment. Let us receive Him in this promise. Let us be the encouragement that He is to us. Let us show others the love that fills us when He does help us to feel better. When I was saved all I wanted to do was read about Jesus and dive head first into the word that made me glad; "When they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement."
(Acts 15:31)
As I received encouragement, I strive now to be that very encouragement to those broken spirits around me. Wherever the Lord can show Himself through me to lift up my family in Christ or an unbeliever, count me in! This is what we are called into as we follow Him.
"who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
(II Corinthians 1:4)
My friends, know that God is with us. To those who feel lost He sees you. To those who live their life doing what the world tells them will "help them cope," we are here to pray with you for your healing. To those who are thinking of just ending everything, the Lord created you and has a beautiful purpose for you and you do matter. Jesus Christ is calling us all with deep encouragement and into encouraging others. Let us draw near to the Lord and to eachother in unity of spirit and make ones heart glad as they see Jesus working through us. The anxiety we tend to feel about things we cannot control will cause a heavy depression to rest upon us. As we grasp ahold of Jesus each day, pray to Him every moment of the day wherever we may be and live according to what the word is telling us; we will begin to feel this heaviness lifted off us. We will begin to walk in spirit with Jesus and smile with Him. Let us be the light to those in darkness now so they too can feel the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us praise God loud and proud, for when we do the devil cringes and flees; "He saved them from the hand of him who hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. The waters covered their enemies; There was not one of them left. Then they believed His words; They sang His praise." (Psalms 106:10-12)
Let us believe the Lord's word and praise Him who takes away the pain this world causes and fills it with His divine joy. There truely is no other way to filling that void; just as the Father filled the void of this world with the word of light in the beginning, surely He can fill our void with His light now in the same manner. His mercy endures forever!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for lifting me out of my pit of darkness when I felt my hope was no more for this life I was in. Thank you for shining Your light onto the darkness living in me and removing it all together. The power of Your presence is like no other. There is nothing too great for You to strip away. I pray for all of those suffering in this same feeling of despair at this moment. I bind any spirit of heaviness off those who are feeling so low and oppressed in Your Name. I pray for more people to turn to You and feel the kingdom's love flowing through their hearts so that out of them will flow rivers of living water. I sing praises to Your great Name which saved me from death. I want all glory to be given to You as You use me to encourage others You place in front of me. Let me be a helping hand to those who need more of You, this includes myself as I always need more of You Lord. I receive Your gift of grace by faith and rebuke all hinderance the devil may try today in the Mighty Name of my Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. Amen.
