Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
~I Kings 3:9~
Solomon walked in the ways of his father David and when he was handed over to the throne as next king, he too was a little child. It is rather interesting how his father was called as a little child and now he was following in his father's footsteps. Solomon admitted to the Lord that he wasnt able to have the understanding to follow through with this particular role. Solomon humbled himself as a child and asked for the greatest gift, in my personal opinion, discernment between good and evil. As we serve the Lord we should all desire this gift above all. We have many things that attempt to throw us off as we do God's work, we need to have His wisdom backing us up; "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." (Ephesians 5:15-16)
As God calls us to accomplish an assignment, a meeting or an event for Him we must be on guard, alert and ready to discern the difference between things coming from God or things coming from the enemy. We are in a spiritual battle, whether we want to admit it or not, and we cannot do it alone. However, with God on our side, we have gifts from heaven given to each believer according to His will; "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills."
(I Corinthians 12:11)
Gifts as He choses to give and gifts we can ask for as a child of God the more we crave.
Our Father desires us to be in tuned with what is around us, so that we may know what is truth and what is error. Solomon asked wisely, isnt that something? He asked for wisdom and it was truely wise of him to ask for this. God granted him beyond what he even asked for because he was so pleased. To desire to be led by the Lord's hand firmly is the greatest gift. To know when to speak and when to keep silence. To know when to move and when to be still. To know when to wait and when to act. This can only come from the counsel and wisdom of the Almighty; "Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength."
(Proverbs 8:14)
Solomon asked for it and that is exactly what he received. The Lord gives generously to His children out of the purity of their hearts.
He longs for us to walk in faith, discerning how to be in His will each day. Discernment has allowed Solomon to give major advice and write influential and comforting words and it all comes from God. Without His wisdom, how then can we truely lead where He is instructing? How then can we trust in His plans? How then can we make major decisions if we do not know if they are His, our own or the enemy's? As a parent teaches their child to know right from wrong, that it is implanted into their being; our Father trains us up with His knowledge, wisdom and discernment to be able to walk naturally in his path knowing between good and evil so that we are protected and secure. He loves us and wants what is best for us. As we desire to feel more of Jesus, let us ask for that discernment in the same manner so that we may go from glory to glory rather then becoming easily deceived. "And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you." (Matthew 24:4)
How can we do this? By asking God for His understanding so that we may know, just as Solomon did, true and false words that will barrel towards us from every angle. Solomon knew the importance of God's wisdom and he surrendered to it no matter how hard that felt or how uncomfortable it did get; "For in much wisdom is much grief, And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow." (Ecclesiastes 1:18)
Praise God for the loving kindness of sharing heaven with us here on earth!
"For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her." (Proverbs 8:11)
This is a gift we should all be praying on constantly as the Body of Christ comes closer together, we should earnestly ask for it just as earnestly as Solomon did as a child.
Prayer:
Gracious God, thank you for giving such glorious gifts to Your children. You are faithful and true and I believe that as I ask You for more, You have already given what You knew I would ask of. I praise You for the faith that is within me, for prophecy, for praying and for all of the other gifts You have brought to pass or will in time. May glory be given to You each and everytime. I am here to serve You Lord and speak blessings. I know I have an enemy and I know as I fight beside You, I am capable of seeing his traps before he even sets them, for You will show me. I bless all of my family in Christ and those outside of Christ and I declare freedom for more to come to know You. I pray that more of Your people ask for discernment or for it to increase. I receive it myself as well and use only to bring You glory, in Jesus Holy, Pure and Sovereign Name. Amen.
I want to be in sync with the Holy Spirit like you.
Wow! Thank you. This too goes hand in hand with what you have said to me
